These days I am finding a great deal of comfort in simple pleasures. I believe that comes with being more mindful and slowing down to smell the roses. This past week, as Ella and Sam have gone back to school, I’ve decided to take the time I have when they are both at school to focus on myself. That may sound a bit selfish and wasteful at first but it’s not all about ME I assure you. It’s about taking pride in me and mine.
In my grey cloud that draped over me in March, I kind of wallowed in my grey state. I stopped painting my nails, I started throwing on leggings and sweatshirts instead of “real” clothes and spent far too much ineffectual time sitting in front of the laptop. I would stare out the window at the clouds and accomplish very little.
But we had a wonderful Easter Holiday! The kids and I had great fun, we three, in the first week and we were lucky enough to have Mark home with us from Good Friday. I really felt that grey cloud lift and while we still have a great deal of stress, I am coping with it well and truly embracing happy.
On Tuesday, when both Ella and Sam went back to school and the sun finally came out in force, I decided that it was time to use my 6 hours of free time every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday to be mindful, healthy and proactive. I popped my trainers on and headed out for a walk around the fields bordering my village. I soaked up some Vitamin D, blew the cobwebs away and took in the beauty of nature. What a difference it made! I felt empowered, stronger and happier almost instantly. Who knew??
Why don’t you indulge in some simple pleasures like enjoying a cup of tea (or wine!) in the garden, go for a walk not just for fitness but to really SEE your surroundings, read a magazine, paint your nails. You’d be amazed at how much better you feel when you do. I even had a quick swing on my walk yesterday! And why not??
What are your simple pleasures? I’d love to know!
