January 17, 2016

Today was chilled out and family focused. None of the jobs I had hoped might get done got done. I did manage to change the sheets on our bed this evening so there’s one great accomplishment! However, we spent time together as a family, spent time with my inlaws who needed a distraction and played a rousing game of Mousetrap. Our evening was rounded out with steak & sausages for dinner, bath time and another chapter of Harry Potter. The tooth fairy visited last night to award Ella £1 for that blasted front tooth so all is well with the world. I am now in the process of thumbing through one of my seldom-thumbed-through cookbooks to find a couple of new recipes to inspire me for next week’s meal planning. Clearly, my life is worthy of admiration!

Our week ahead will be filled with work, learning, progress and fun. I need to get back on my morning routine of Yoga Camp with Adriene. It makes a big difference when I start the day with some discipline, regardless of what that discipline is. I’m also going to have to try to make a stab at getting to the bottom of what’s troubling Ella at school. I think we’ve found the “source” and now it’s whether anything can be done. Ella is just like me. She doesn’t want to cause trouble or upset even though that often means that she is the one who ends up troubled and upset. How I passed on that trait, I will never know! I need to find a way for her to build confidence in finding her own path; in making herself happy and not worrying about what others are feeling. That’s not to say that I don’t want her being empathetic or going out of her way to be mean to anyone. I just want her to be able to feel confident enough to say “No, actually, I don’t agree with you” or “No, you aren’t the boss of me.” I still need to learn this sometimes!

This morning when I was getting ready for the day, Sam ran up to me and said “Mummy, what’s 3 plus 3?” and held up 3 fingers on each hand. I said, “I don’t know, what’s 3 plus 3?” Sam counted all of his raised fingers and said “3 plus 3 is 6!” I said, “Well done Sammy!” and he ran off. A minute later he ran in and said “Mummy, what’s 1 plus 4? and held up 1 finger on one hand, 4 fingers on the other hand. I said, “I don’t know, what’s 1 plus 4?” Sammy counted out his fingers and said “1 plus 4 is 5!” I love this! Clever boy. I hope your week is a good one. Always remember…not every day is good but there is good in every day. Find your good.
